Group Exercise Descriptions
Below is a combined list of what is offered throughout the entire YMCA OF THE SUNCOAST. Not all classes are offered at all locations. Visit your specific location webpage for their class list. Here's our group exercise schedule to view on desktop computer.
Adult Dance Mix - A current mix of hip hop, tap, lyrical and jazz to improve cardiovascular fitness.
Aqua Zumba - A pool party that blends it all together with cardio conditioning and body toning.
Balance - Improve your core stability and balance using a variety of tools such as balls, bands and other equipment.
Ballroom Dance - Learn different styles of ballroom dance, to include the Swing, Waltz, Tango, Rumba, Fox Trot and Cha Cha.
Belly Dancing - A form of exercise utilizing the muscle groups of the abdomen, pelvis, trunk, spine and neck.
Bodyvive - A four week progressive program includes calisthenics, plyometric, and cardiovascular conditioning. There is an additional fee for this class.
Cardio and Core - A cardiovascular workout followed by core strengthening.
Cardio Dance - A dance-style cardio class complete with basic toning exercises.
Cardio Lite - A class that is cardiovascular in nature, using large muscle groups, but allows to keep one foot on the floor at a time.
Chair Yoga - Designed for the older adult or those recovering from surgery or an injury. With liberal use of props and chair for support, this class rebuilds strength and flexibility.
Chi Kung - Likened to be a moving meditation and is the precursor to Tai Chi. Designed for any level of fitness or non-fitness.
Conditioning Drills - A boot camp-style workout combining both cardiovascular and strength exercises.
Core - A class designed to target the core muscles.
Core and Glute - A class designed to target the glutes and core muscles.
Cycling - A stationary bike cardiovascular workout to music simulating an outdoor bike ride
Cycling and Core - A stationary bike cardiovascular workout to music simulating and outdoor bike ride followed by core exercises.
Cycling and Strength - A stationary bike cardiovascular workout to music simulating an outdoor bike ride followed by strength exercises.
Deep Water Exercise - Low-impact exercises that help build strength, balance, and good cardiovascular health with the use of water as resistance. Participants should be able to swim independently.
Family Play Group - A fun class designed for caregiver and child, with music, movement and learning.
HIIT - Cardiovascular-based class including varying levels of intensity to increase your heart rate. Class will include core work, phases of strength work, plyometric and kickboxing drills.
Kettlebell - A challenging, full-body workout combining strength and cardiovascular exercises.
Kickboxing - Cardiovascular training using a variety of kicks, jabs and choreographed combinations.
Kids Yoga - Classical yoga poses designed to build flexibility, gain strength, and improve posture, coordination and balance. For ages 5-12.
Kid Fit - Classic games like tag, foursquare, and kickball along with agility drills and other activities. For ages 5-12.
LesMills- The Y partners with LesMills and offers several group exercise classes to motivate you by feeding off the energy of others.
Line Dancing - Learn line dancing choreography during this fun class.
Meditation - Guided relaxation.
On the Ball - This class uses stability balls to strengthen the whole body.
Pilates -A mat class focusing on core strength and breathing.
Piloxing - Interval fusion of pilates, boxing and dance.
Power Yoga - Energizing your body with this advanced level class with yoga poses that increase flexibility, build stamina and strength.
Silver Splash - Shallow water movement used to improve agility and flexibility while addressing cardiovascular strength and endurance conditioning.
SilverSneakers Cardio Fit - Easy to follow, low-impact movement and upper body strength, abdominal conditioning, stretching and relaxation.
SilverSneakers Circuit - Upper body strength workout with hand-held weights, elastic tubing with handles, and a silver sneakers ball is alternated with low impact aerobic choreography. A chair is used for standing support, streching and relaxation exercises.
SilverSneakers Classic - A variety of exercises designed to increase muscular strength, range of motion and activities of daily living.
SilverSneakers Yoga - Move your whole body through a complete series of seated and standing yoga poses.
Step - A cardiovascular class consisting of choreographed moves using an elevated step.
Step and Strength - A cardiovascular class consisting of choreographed moves using an elevated step incorporating a strength workout.
Strength and Resistance - Workout using weighted bars, hand-weights, resistance bands and other strength training equipment.
Strength Lite - A low-impact strength class incorporation cardiovascular exercise and using a variety of fitness tools.
Tabata - A high-intensity interval training workout. Each drill consists of 20 seconds of work followed by 10 seconds of recovery.
Tai Chi - A form of Chinese Martial arts which is characterized by the grace of its slow movements.
Wall Yoga - A class geared towards increasing vitality and fine tuning alignment with the support of a wall.
Water Exercise - Low-impact exercises that help build strength, balance, and good cardiovascular health with the use of water as resistance. Participants do not have to be able to swim.
